An adaptive management approach to recovering burrowing owl populations and restoring a grassland ecosystem in San Diego County, Project Report 2014

Type: report

Article abstract: We report on the fourth year's progress in a multi-year program with the goal of developing a strategy to assist in the recovery of Western burrowing owls and their grassland ecosystem in San Diego County. There are two major components to this program. One project is designed to restore certain components of the grassland ecosystem to better support BUOW, focusing on exotic vegetation management and re-establishing fossorial mammals that dig burrows that BUOW depends on for nesting. The other project involves a series of studies designed to understand the ecological drivers and anthropogenic threats influencing BUOW population performance in San Diego County. This work is done in collaboration with San Diego State University and other partners.
