Article abstract: Final report outlining how The Port of San Diego leveraged SanDag's funding to prepare sites at the D street Fill in Chula Vista for the 2023 nesting season for the California Least Tern, a federally endangered migratory seabird. Site preparation efforts began in March 2023 to remove invasive vegetation from the site to restore it to sandy habitat. Herbicide was also applied to remove invasive Bermuda grass. For the 2023 nesting season, a total of 44 least tern nests were recorded at the D Street Fill and an estimated four fledglings survived to adulthood.
