Draft Final: San Diego Western Pond Turtle Monitoring and Recovery Effort January 2020-December 2021

Type: report

Article abstract: Data Summary. This study builds on the previous work by the USGS and its partners in support of pond turtle restoration and management in the MSPA (Brown et al, 2020). Here we report on the search for new pond turtle populations, continued monitoring of translocated individuals and removal of nonnative aquatic species from 1 January 2020 to 31 December 2021. Specific activities reported here are summarized in Table 1. This work is part of the larger study to assess the pond turtle in San Diego, Orange, and Riverside counties. Pond turtle restoration and translocation has been a collaborative effort between the USGS and our partners: San Diego Zoo, CDFW, SDMMP, San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG), City of San Diego (City), County of San Diego (County), U.S. Forest Service (USFS), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), Endangered Habitats Conservancy (EHC), and The Nature Conservancy (TNC).
