Article abstract: Within the reporting period (January 1, 1998 - December 31, 1998), 808 acres of habitat were conserved, compared to a loss of 156 acres of habitat (Table 1). Consistent with the design goals of the program, virtually all of the conserved habitat is located within the City?s MHPA, while the majority of habitat loss occurred outside the MHPA. Acres lost represents the acreage impacted by projects approved for construction within the reporting period. Acres conserved include: 131 acres conserved through mitigation for project-level impacts; 79 acres conserved through exactions of private property during the development entitlement process; and 598 acres acquired with public funds.
