Job Opportunity - Preserve Manager - Coachella Valley (Center for Natural Lands Management)

Do you have experience in conservation land stewardship including application of good management practices, endangered species monitoring, and nonnative species management? Have you worked in a desert environment? Do you have knowledge of southern California desert ecosystems and management of rare or fragile species? Do you enjoy mentoring and working with volunteers and the visiting public? Are you an excellent communicator, collaborator, and proven self-starter?

Join the Center for Natural Lands Management (CNLM) in protecting conservation lands in perpetuity! Our Preserve Managers provide critical on-the-ground management of their own individual portfolio of preserves—each one representing increasingly rare habitats, fragile ecosystems, and endangered species.

Duties include, but not limited to: • Provide stewardship for a portfolio of preserves in the Coachella Valley including Thousand Palms Oasis Preserve which is owned by CNLM focused on the conservation Coachella Valley fringe-toed lizard and desert pupfish. • Practice adaptive management – updating management plans based on evidence, experience, and changing conditions • Implement vegetation treatment activities for high-priority nonnative invasive plant species and monitor occurrences and populations of native, listed, and exotic species of plants and animals • Support public visitor services by supervising and recruiting, as needed, volunteer corps and CNLM staff; provide educational materials and opportunities • Develop work plans, prepare annual reports, manage preserve budgets • Participate in acquiring new CNLM preserves which includes conducting cost analyses on new properties using CNLM’s iconic “PAR” process and app • Participate in CNLM’s team of accomplished stewardship professionals in California and Washington to improve best management practices for rare and endangered species in their native environments
