The City of San Diego Parks and Recreation Department is looking to hire two paid interns to work in the Open Space Division’s Natural Resource Management Team.

Applicant must be enrolled as a student at an accredited institution of higher learning to qualify for this position.

The City of San Diego Park and Recreation Department is looking to hire two paid interns ($16.36/hour) to work in the Open Space Division with the Natural Resource Management Team. Responsibilities include GPS field data collection using ArcGIS applications such as Field Maps and Survey 123; field studies of sensitive plant and animal species; assisting biologists with rare plant surveys, vernal pool monitoring, and land management tasks; data management and analysis; report writing; processing Right of Entry Permits; and general open space research tasks using GIS.

The Open Space Natural Resource Management internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain on-the-job experience in GIS, field data collection, botany, biological monitoring, and conservation land management that is directly relevant to many professional jobs and allows students an opportunity to meet and work with local agency representatives, biologists, park rangers and other natural resource professionals.

Schedule: 20 hours/week while school is in session (two full days (M-F) per week is preferred); 40 hours/week while school is in recess. The internship is a one-year commitment/term; candidates should be scheduled to graduate no sooner than December 2023.

Desired skills: Ideal candidates will have a background and interest in GIS, conservation biology, and local native species and habitats. Candidates must enjoy strenuous hiking and off-trail fieldwork.
