Job Opportunity - Wildlife Biologist (USFWS)

This position is a Wildlife Biologist, GS-0486-11 working in Chula Vista, California, for the San Diego National Wildlife Refuge Complex.

As a Wildlife Biologist your duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop and review wildlife management plans or study proposals covering existing and new biological programs.
  • Analyze and map biological information and geographic data (e.g., population dynamics, home range or habitat use analysis) with statistical and Geographic Information System (GIS) application software to inform biological programs and management decisions.
  • Work with managers and/or biologists to identify monitoring priorities and objectives and assist in the resolution of conflicting objectives.
  • Evaluate potential and realized impacts of specific wildlife management actions on target populations and habitats within an adaptive management framework.
  • Act as a representative at interagency planning sessions and other meetings to present technical information pertaining to wildlife and other natural resources issues to a variety of audiences.
  • Prioritize a series of projects in different stages of development and with rigorous deadlines for a program.
  • Use scientific information to develop and prepare management plans that meet and/or are consistent with refuge objectives, environmental laws, compliance requirements, and other bureau or agency policies.
  • Develop or modify surveys using the principles of existing techniques and methods of sampling, collecting, and analyzing biological data to collect monitoring data for species or habitats.
  • Develop and review wildlife management plans or study proposals covering existing and new biological programs.
  • Direct and coordinate a biological program that includes a variety of wildlife surveys
  • Provide biological advice and guidance to management in the development of management plans and coordinate activities with involved agencies, researchers, and other stakeholders.
