The Conservation Coordinator position will work with multiple agencies and community groups and will learn habitat management techniques and gain event planning and volunteer management experience. Bird and plant identification and biology can be learned on the job. Through the lens of a local and well-respected nonprofit organization, the Coordinator will help accomplish these projects by organizing and overseeing planting events and maintaining restoration sites.
Responsibilities
Organize and Conduct Planting Events, 60%
• Restore native habitats by working with the public and leading volunteer events, removing invasive vegetation, identifying native vs. non-native plants, planting native species, collecting habitat data, providing interpretive information about birds and habitats, maintaining gear, and leading SDAS staff in habitat restoration events
Local Stewardship, 10%
• Use existing relationships and build new and diverse partnerships to encourage local communities to engage with their parks and steward their natural resources, organize and lead outreach events
Administration, 30%
• Communicate with volunteers, complete timesheets, organize data
