The Environmental Services Intern will participate in natural resources management activities throughout the San Diego Coast District. The ESI will assist the District staff in carrying out projects that may include supervising, monitoring, and providing labor for non-native plant removal and habitat restoration projects. Planting and cultivating native plant material, installing permanent and temporary fencing, installing and repairing Irrigation systems, vegetation and wildlife sampling, and documenting restoration activities. Treating and mapping non-native species with herbicide. Conducting inventories involving both short- and long-term monitoring of sensitive plant and animal populations. Documenting work in statewide databases and assisting with the preparation of reports. Providing a monitoring presence to ensure that biological mitigation measures are properly executed during construction of State Park Facilities and non-routine maintenance activities. The ESI will assist District staff in project review to ensure compliance with environmental laws and permitting needs.
