Become a nature detective! Wildlife trackers piece together clues left behind in the environment to gain a richer picture of the variety of animals using a habitat and read the story of their behavior. Evaluate tracks and signs to determine who’s been there and what they’ve been doing.
This course will include an evening in-class session, paired with a morning field day to practice skills out on the trail at Border Field State Park. At the workshop, you’ll become familiar with common local wildlife species, learn basic track and sign identification, avoid the pitfalls of perception, learn how to distinguish between mountain lion and domestic dog tracks (which are confused more often than not), and more.
This class will be taught by SDAS Education Associate/Volunteer Manager, Jill Cooper. Jill is a trained biologist who has been tracking wildlife for more than ten years.
