This position oversees data management for the network I&M program, working with ecologists, biologists, and physical scientists to manage data sets vital to the management of natural resources. Network scientists are engaged in monitoring lake chemistry, hydrology, amphibians, climate, high elevation forest dynamics, wetland habitats, and birds. Data management includes development and stewardship of relational databases and GIS data sets; design and development of new database user interfaces for data entry, data quality review, data migration, and data archiving; development and maintenance of metadata; development of data dictionaries, database documentation, and user guides; implementation of data certification procedures; and management of network datasets on service-wide internet-based systems. The data manager assists in the analysis of inventory and monitoring data, development of scientific reports, and presentation of results. The data manager works closely with other professional biological, ecological, and physical science staff, as well as other agency personnel and university scientists in all aspects of natural resources data acquisition and information management. As part of a community of I&M data managers across the National Park Service, they also participate in the development and implementation of service-wide data stewardship initiatives. This position is located at Ash Mountain Headquarters of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks in Three Rivers, California.
