Steelhead Conservation Updates (South Coast Steelhead Coalition)

An informative presentation on current steelhead conservation efforts. Refreshments will be provided.

Sandra Jacobson, who manages the South Coast Steelhead Coalition, will talk about recovery actions underway for endangered Southern steelhead in local rivers.

The mission of the South Coast Steelhead Coalition is to implement the federal Southern California steelhead recovery plan. The Coalition's approach is to integrate natural processes into urban landscapes – creating resource management solutions that support wildlife and communities. Current projects include fish passage enhancement in the San Juan Creek and Santa Margarita River watersheds; and steelhead habitat improvement in the headwaters of San Juan Creek, San Mateo Creek, Santa Margarita River and the San Luis Rey.

Coalition partnerships are essential to the success of this endeavor, which brings together over 30 federal, state and local agencies, tribal nations, resource conservation districts, and environmental organizations in actions that ultimately restore the rivers for future generations.

This event is supported by the Upper San Luis Rey River Groundwater Recharge & Habitat Protection Project, funded by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
